Jan Vertonghen: 'Tottenham Hotspur deserve a trophy'

22 February 2017

Tottenham Hotspur put recent poor results behind them on Sunday, powering to a 3-0 win over Fulham in the FA Cup at Craven Cottage.

Tottenham started the game on top and created two chances in quick succession in the opening few minutes, with Christian Eriksen seeing a strike saved after being played in by Dele Alli, before Alli then fired just wide from the edge of the box moments later.

While Spurs are taking a break from Premier League action and their quest for Champions League qualification, manager Mauricio Pochettino has selected strong sides in the last two cup matches against Belgium club Gent and Fulham.

He provided three terrific goals and single-handedly pushed his club into the next round of the FA Cup.

The 23-year-old England striker, who took his tally to 19 for the season, ended a hard week for Spurs and manager Mauricio Pochettino on a winning note following defeats by Liverpool in the league and then Belgian outfit Gent in the Europa League last 32 first leg.

Kane had few complaints about the team's overall performance either: "Winning games gives you confidence. Now we'll try to keep that feeling for Thursday". "We feel very proud of him not only as a player but as a man". "I believe it shows that the club has faith in me and its flawless timing because it's given me a lot more confidence when I'm going out there to train every day, believing that I'm going in the right direction".

None of the recent releases were complicated decisions for the Dolphins because of age, injury history, or lack of productivity. He became expendable when the Dolphins drafted former Lake City Columbia star Laremy Tunsil with the 13th pick previous year .

He nevertheless started in the 3-0 FA Cup fifth-round victory at Craven Cottage on Sunday and says he was always ready to start the game.

"I watched the game last night, and Gent played very good football", Jokanovic added. "Next time maybe two or three others will rest".

"They passed the ball easily and had so much energy".

"I think the attitude of every player was really good", Mourinho said.

Vertonghen said: "We played the final against Chelsea at Wembley a couple of years ago, and we want more of that".

His perfectly weighted through ball set up Kane for a one-on-one with Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli and it never looked like the striker would miss from there.
