Alt-right leader Richard Spencer expelled at CPAC conference

24 February 2017

He explained that Trump and his supporters are fighting a four-front war against the establishment media, establishment Republicans, Democrats and the "snowflake brigade".

"Look at the opposition party, how they portrayed the campaign, how they've portrayed the transition and now the administration".

But Schneider used the CPAC forum, held at Maryland's National Harbor just outside Washington, to make clear that from their perspective the alt-right has no place in conservativism. "Fascists tend to want big government control".

A slew of White House officials and top Republicans are set to address the annual Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday, in an event over which President Donald Trump will loom large.

Spencer purchased a general admission pass Thursday morning, Walters said.

The term "Alt-Right" entered the national consciousness most prominently following an August 2016 speech by then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Yiannopoulos has since apologized.

CPAC is trying to send a message that it wants nothing to do with the so-called alt-right, a white nationalist movement that latched on to Donald Trump's rise.

While Trump has been a featured speaker at CPAC and has donated to the ACU over the years, conservative activists vigorously fought his nomination.

But it soon emerged that this was no planned attack, with the 32-year-old Swede likely intoxicated. The spokeswoman would not confirm the gunshots but said the driver was being interrogated.

Trump has also thrilled conservatives by working hand-in-glove with congressional Republicans on overturning or gutting a handful of Obama-era regulations, including one that prevented coal companies from dumping waste into rivers and streams.

And while he admitted he didn't agree philosophically with everyone in the White House or GOP, he argued conservatives, libertarians and right-wing populists need to hang together - and stand behind Trump. "We owe it to you".

Trump is scheduled to speak at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Thursday will culminate with a speech from Vice-President Mike Pence.

Richard Spencer's removal from the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) came as one of the organisers attacked his views. Still, I'm glad he did it. CPAC is generally an exercise in gussied-up unity, papering over the real divisions within conservatism to present a united front against the left. Ted Cruz R-Texas, Heritage Foundation president Jim DeMint, Gov. Scott Walker, Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Lou Dobbs, Sheriff David Clarke Jr., and former Hewlett-Packard Co.

The event traditionally draws a lot of young, aspiring conservatives, eager to hear from the movement's icons and express their own views.

"We have wide and sometimes divergent opinions, but the core of what we believe ... that we're a nation with a culture and a reason for being, and I think that's what unites us", he said. "If you remember, the campaign was the most chaotic by the media's description, most disorganized, most unprofessional, had no idea what they were doing".
