Vice President Mike Pence publicly demanded an apology from the Associated Press (AP) on Saturday for listing his wife's private email address in a story about Pence's apparent reluctance to make the records of his tenure as Indiana's governor public.
Lauren Easton, the AP's director of media relations, said the news organization removed the email address when they realized Karen Pence still used the account.
For months on the campaign trail, Pence accused Clinton of being dishonest and threatening USA national security because she used an unsecured private email server while she was secretary of state. The vice president also posted a detailed letter addressed to Gary Pruitt, AP's president and CEO, demanding an apology for a story the news agency published Friday. As it turns out, Vice President Mike Pence now has an email controversy of his own, after it was discovered that he had used a private email for official communications during his time as governor of Indiana.
However, she said the AP "stands by its story, which addresses important transparency issues". The emails and the successful hack of Pence's email account were first reported Thursday night by The Indianapolis Star.
Thirteen boxes of emails from Vice President Mike Pence's term as IN governor have been turned over to state government, about two months after an earlier attempt didn't work, a spokesman said.
His attorneys turned over 13 boxes of emails earlier this week.
Oil Hits Three-Week Low on Record-High Inventories
The EIA estimates that U.S. crude oil production will average 8,980,000 bpd and 9,530,000 bpd in 2017 and 2018, respectively. USA crude exports have averaged nearly 900,000 bpd during the last four weeks, up from about 500,000 bpd in September.
A Pence official would not comment or characterize what is in the AOL emails that have not been released.
The two stories suggested that the AOL email account was used by Pence to discuss seemingly confidential subjects such as terror attacks and to receive Federal Bureau of Investigation updates. It is not illegal for the governor to have a personal email account, according to the paper.
"As Governor, Mr. Pence fully complied with IN law regarding email use and retention", a Pence spokesperson told the Indianapolis Star.
'We have fully complied with all of Indiana's laws'. Many called the vice president a hypocrite after his criticism of Clinton's private email server during the 2016 campaign season.
CNN submitted a public records request to the IN governor's office IN September for emails between Pence, using his personal AOL email, and his top staff. Pence's office never responded to follow-up requests from CNN, but a spokeswoman for Holcomb said she was reviewing the request. "We had outside counsel review all of my private email records to identify any emails that ever referenced or mentioned state business related activities and as IN law requires, we transferred all of those to the state of IN public access laws". That AOL account was disclosed Thursday by the Star.
