Film clips from the careers of both Reynolds and Fisher were shown.
The memorial began with a military color guard for the Singin' in the Rain star, who had performed for the troops over the years, even making several trips to those serving in Korea in the 1950s.
"When we heard about what happened.it honestly felt like a family member that I've loved for decades was gone", said Liza Rios-Proprofsky, a Fisher fan who had a "Star Wars"-themed wedding".
"So what would the offspring of Princess Leia and Elwood Blues have turned out like amusing, quick, spiritual, haunted, pursued, talented, acerbic, deviant, genius, tech motor device engine and music savvy - in other words, we would have had [Carrie's brother] Todd Fisher". He surmised that if he and Fisher had a child, given their personalities, "it would be Todd Fisher". "These were my girls".
Fisher, 60, died on December 27, four days after suffering a heart attack on a flight from Britain where she had been shooting the third season of a British television comedy.
In a interview with Entertainment tonight, Todd Fisher revealed that Carrie's passing was a devastating blow for his mother, Debbie. "We want to be here to be amongst other people, and just to say goodbye to Carrie and Debbie in a more personal way", she added.
"He said, 'You're going to skip breakfast, honey?' I said, 'You got that right, '" she said.

The memorial, held at Forest Lawn's Hall of Liberty, paid tribute to the stars who died within days of each other late past year, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Todd said the event was all of their "people"; extended family, close friends and fans.
Not only were fans sad because their favorites had passed away but James Blunt released a song he wrote about Carrie.
Carrie's daughter, Billie Lourd, was in attendance, as was her beloved therapy dog, Gary, along with Carrie and Todd's half-sisters, Joely and Tricia Fisher, and their mom, Connie Stevens (who was married to the late Eddie Fisher in the 1960s).
The joint tribute heard that silver screen icon Reynolds, 84, no longer wanted to carry on after the death of her daughter Fisher, 60. "It's where they held court", he explained.
