April the giraffe preparing for 'launch sequence,' say zoo officials

10 April 2017

Zoo officials say April the giraffe continues to have a great appetite and good nature.

"We have been told by other parks that mothers will sometimes feast just before the birth", the park said.

The Chester Zoo posted video of the birth to its Facebook page on Tuesday. Considering that April has given birth a few times before, veterinarians on staff at the Animal Adventure Park should have some idea how she responds during pregnancy and labor.

The Memphis Zoo also welcomed a baby giraffe this week.

It's been more than a month since the park shared the news of April's impending birth with the world, via social media. April will raise her calf naturally, and weaning could take between 6-10 months, maybe longer.

The keepers will go in with April occasionally to clean her pen and give her treats (but not Oliver).

Zookeepers say that Orla delivered her new addition smoothly following a four-hour labor after her 15-month pregnancy.

"She is still showing all the signs that she is nearly ready", said Dr. Tim.

April the Giraffe's pregnancy has been called the most highly anticipated pregnancy of the year. Regarding the calf's gender, Animal Adventure Park said their ultrasound equipment could not determine if April the giraffe will be having a boy or a girl.

Former Fox anchor: Harassment is pervasive
How have Fox News and Bill O'Reilly responded? Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters is commenting on the Bill O'Reilly Scandal. Smith criticized President Donald Trump for defending Fox News host Bill O'Reilly from new allegations of sexual harassment.

April, who's at The Animal Adventure Park in NY continues to pace around her pen with no sign of baby.

Male giraffes don't take part in raising their off-spring.

It didn't help that word of an imminent delivery for a giraffe named April landed on April Fools' Day Eve.

April's pregnancy was catapulted into global headlines late last month after YouTube briefly yanked the zoo's stream following complaints by animal activists that it violated the site's policies concerning "nudity and sexual content". "We sure it's not on a loop?" another said.

Importantly, it added: "Www.aprilthegiraffe.com is your source for all things April".

Do you have April the Giraffe fatigue? "Typically a giraffe can eat up to 75lbs of food per day", said officials in the online post.

But the weekend passed with no hoax - and no baby.

But they have capitalised on the excitement of the surely-soon-to-happen birth by releasing merchandise and a paid-for text alert system.
