Hodgkinson, who was said to have been motivated by grievances against President Donald Trump and other Republican politicians, was carrying a list with the names of at least three lawmakers, the New York Times reported Saturday, citing law enforcement officials.
Another person familiar with the case who was not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to the Associated Press Saturday on condition of anonymity about the names.
Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials declined to confirm media accounts that the list of names Hodgkinson carried was a "kill list"; they said the names were listed without any other comment. The shooter was an IL man, James Hodgkinson, who had lashed out against President Donald Trump and Republicans over social media.
A spokesman for George Washington University Hospital said that Matt Mika, a lobbyist wounded in the attack, was improving, and that as of Thursday night his condition had been upgraded from critical to serious.
"I think that an excellent recovery is a good possibility", Dr. Jack Sava, director of trauma at MedStar Washington Hospital Center said at a news conference Friday afternoon.
Infection remains a considerable risk in the days and weeks during Scalise's extended hospital stay, Sava said.
Scalise was shot in the hip, and the bullet damaged bone, blood vessels and internal organs.

The gunman, identified by authorities as James Hodgkinson, died of wounds he sustained during a shootout with police. Hodgkinson's Facebook page is filled with vitriolic rants against the Republican Party and he belonged to a Facebook group entitled "Terminate The Republican Party".
Doctors say Scalise will be in the hospital for a "considerable period of time".
