Gas prices fall 2.3 cents, but higher than a year ago

The statewide average was $2.15, below the nationwide average of $2.23. Consumers can find gas for $2.00 or less at one out of every four gas stations in the country. In Connecticut, the state's average of $2.43 is a penny less compared to last week; and is the same as this time previous year. Gas prices continue to plummet across the Bradenton-Sarasota area as well as Florida, with Monday marking the 30th consecutive day of falling costs.

AAA says the Fourth of July holiday will likely increase demand for gasoline but not enough to cause a significant price increase. One reason: a report on Thursday by the U.S. Energy Information Administration that drilling activity in the United States dropped by two rigs - the first pullback since January.
