Patriots trade QB Jacoby Brissett for Colts WR Phillip Dorsett

03 September 2017

The Indianapolis Colts have activated Andrew Luck from the physically unable to perform list and traded 2015 first-round draft Phillip Dorsett to the New England Patriots.

Brissett started and played all 66 snaps in the team's preseason finale against the Giants, going 28-of-39 for 341 yards, with 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. Sure, New England lost Julian Edelman to a season-ending knee injury.

See how Twitter reacted to the trade. He completed 34-of-55 passes for 400 yards.

The Colts' quarterback situation is in chaos, with starter Andrew Luck all-but-confirmed to sit out at least the opener as the result of his slow rehabilitation from shoulder surgery in January. The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder has appeared in 26 games with seven starts and totaled 51 receptions for 753 yards and three touchdowns. His rookie contract is up after this season, but all signs to the Patriots believing in him as the successor to Brady.

Just as Taylor and her marketing team planned it, all other info surrounding the new record remains scarce at this time. The video premiered at the 2017 MTV VMAs and has since smashed records for streaming music via Spotify and YouTube .

Perhaps the Patriots will begin by working Dorsett into the mix at kick and punter returner, where Dorsett could start for New England after returning 25 punts when he was in college at Miami.

However, just because this is how the roster currently stands, doesn't mean it'll be like this by the same time tomorrow, as the Colts will presumably be looking to claim other teams' players who are now on waivers. Brissett joined the team as a third-round pick in 2016. Last year, he accounted for a career high three sacks and one forced fumble and recovery. They also are exceptionally deep at receiver, especially since undrafted rookie Austin Carr impressed in camp and the preseason.

However, some other notable veterans such as outside linebacker Akeem Ayers, who was arguably the Colts best linebacker in coverage last season, and free agent addition Sean Spence were also reported to be cut casualties earlier on Saturday. Third-year tight end James O'Shaughnessy, another product of a trade, was also released, and second year offensive lineman Ted Karras, who had showed versatility at guard and center, was also released but could return on the practice squad.
