OJ Simpson not welcome in Florida, state AG says

02 October 2017

Here's a timeline of major events in the life of Simpson, now 70, who was imprisoned in Nevada for armed robbery before he was freed on parole early Sunday. "I told him, 'Don't come back, ' and he responded, 'I don't intend to, '" she said of Simpson's prison exit.

In July he was granted parole due to good behavior and other credits earned in custody.

"We needed to do this to ensure public safety and to avoid any possible incident", Ms Keast said.

Bondi said, "there is no justification under these circumstances for asking the taxpayers of Florida to foot the bill for hosting Mr. Simpson's parole".

Former American football star O.J. Simpson, 70, was released on parole at 12:08 a.m. local time on Sunday after serving almost nine years in prison in U.S state of Nevada.

He was found civilly liable for the slayings in 1997 and ordered to pay the victims' families $US33.5 million. State prisons spokeswoman Brooke Keast said Simpson's release was timed to avoid media attention. He said the timing of Simpson's release is up to authorities and he doesn't know when it will be.

But California corrections officials say he has not filed papers to live in that state either.

LaVergne told KTNV-TV that Simpson planned to relocate to Florida, play golf and be around his friends and family.

Tom Price flew a little too high, a little too often
A spokeswoman, Charmaine Yoest, said Price had once been delayed on a commercial flight and was forced to cancel a public event. White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Tuesday that Price's trips weren't "White House-approved travel".

An apologetic Simpson, who had not been publicly seen since being granted parole in a 2013 hearing on lesser charges, appeared far slimmer and more fit than he did then, wearing dark slacks and a blue button-up shirt over a white T-shirt during the hearing.

But the former National Football League running back and actor was sent to prison in 2008 for his role in an armed robbery the previous year of two sports memorabilia dealers at a Las Vegas resort.

8 News NOW will continue to monitor any developments on Simpson's release throughout the weekend.

Two of Simpson's children live in St. Petersburg, Florida.

At his parole hearing in July, Simpsons said, "All I want is my property". "The specter of his residing in comfort in Florida should not be an option".

"Our state should not become a country club for this convicted criminal", she said.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote a letter to the Department of Corrections on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, stating that she doesn't want OJ Simpson to live in her state.
